God’s Promises- An Eternal Perspective

Focus Scripture: Hebrews 11:39-40 (CSB)

39 All these were approved through their faith, but they did not receive what was promised, 40 since God had provided something better for us, so that they would not be made perfect without us.

View God’s Promises from an Eternal Perspective

Here’s a hard truth: Everything that God has promised you or will promise during our time here on Earth may not all come to pass for us to see while living. So does that mean that God did not keep His word? No. His word is eternal. It is impossible for Him to go against it because that would mean that he would lie and lying is not within the parameters of the character and functionality of God.

His word is eternal.

Just because we may not witness it with our own eyes does not mean that God has in some way forgotten. His word is never-failing. Infallible. God cannot lie. It would be against His very nature.

We must remember that in order to fully walk the life of complete surrenderance, we have to commit all our cares, hopes, concerns, and desires in the hands of the Lord. If He said it, He will absolutely do it. It's a guarantee. Maybe not in our lifetime or in the lifetime of our children. Because He is the Lord of the infinite–operating outside of time, the word will be accomplished and established at its appointed time. Rest assured that it shall come to pass. Just think about the prayers of all those trapped under the savage institution of slavey in the Americas. Africans who were brutally forced from their native home to be spread throughout the Caribbean and United States, in order to be used as property to satisfy the greed and carnal desires of men.

Yet, though enslaved, many held on to faith that God would one day deliver them; that their children’s children’s children would not have to experience the same hardships and abuse. They held fast to this, and while so doing, many died still imprisoned under that vicious system.

…But God’s word and promise did indeed come to pass. Freedom came at the appointed time and it set off such a powerful gust of wind to propel and revolutionize the role and perception of black people in America. That legacy continues today. The strong bout of freedom wind continues to be expanded–serving as a proof point not only of God’s faithfulness, but also of His ability and desire to give us far more than we can ever hope, think, or imagine. He is the God of abundance. He is faithful. His word is true.

And we should never be so foolish as to not take time each day to praise Him and be truly grateful & appreciative for ALL the ways He’s made—and will continue to make for this generation, and generations to come.

Prayer of Gratitude:

Thank you God for your promises. Thank you for your faithfulness. Thank you that we can put our trust in you. That we have to depend on nothing else but your word. It’s true. It’s fool-proof. It endures forever. May we ever be so humble in embracing this truth and soften our hearts each day to the recognition that Your will and Your way will indeed prevail. Amen.

If there is something that you’ve been waiting on God for and you feel like all hope is lost–-take comfort in knowing this scriptural truth:

Wait for it.

For though it may tarry,

It will surely come.

Maybe next week or next month. Maybe in a few years time. Maybe not even in your lifetime, but if that is the case, don't fret--it will be revealed and come to pass in the lives of the generations that will come from you.

Either way, trust God in the wait. His plan is perfect and He really does know what He is doing.
